1) Inner frontiers of Europe: geographical differences (East and West, North and South, regions of Europe)
2) Minority cultures and their treatment by and of the majority (mainstream and underground, orthodoxy and heresy, conformism and dissent)
3) Europe and the wider world (understanding and interpreting European cultures from the outside)
4) Uses and abuses of cultures: past and present
